Accept credit card payments
I got a few phone call in last year from other guesthouse owners (they are new in business). New entrants or new competitors to me. haha! Some of them asked me politely, “how to receive payment by credit card from clients?”, “Should we have a credit card machine?”
I told them to register to PayPal, or 2checkout. I prefer PayPal because it is very easy to register, setup, request money, receive money and withdraw the fund to our local bank with a small charge apply.
Since October last year, we can easily transfer the PayPal fund to our local bank. For RM400 and above, you will not charged for the transfer fee. You will be charged RM3 for each transfer less than RM400. This rate is much lower as compared to Foreign Telegraphic Transfer (FTT) or Wire Transfer.
And, PayPal provides currency converter which make it easier for you to do transaction. I use PayPal since 2007 and have no problem until now. I have no experience with 2checkout, so I can’t give comment on that.
How to receive payment?
On PayPal, you can request money. Log in to your PayPal and click on request money tab. There will be two choice.
- Create a money request

Then what you have to do is to fill in either one of the form (either to request for money, or create an invoice) and request the amount to charge. Don’t forget the recipient email address otherwise you can’t request the money (very important). For my accommodation services, I only asked clients some percentage of total amount for deposit, the balance should be paid in cash upon check in.
If you don’t have PayPal account, you can register it free here.
