KOTA BARU: The Sultan of Kelantan, Tuanku Ismail Petra Yahya Petra announced today that there would be no celebrations for his 60th birthday.
The Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Daud said there would however, be special prayers held at all mosques in the state.
“The Sultan is not in a position to present any awards or medals in conjunction with his birthday as practiced under the state constitution,” said Wan Hashim who read out a statement from the palace to reporters here today.
He added that the Sultan had already informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and state government of his decision. – Bernama
