This is weekend and I got nothing to do. Just now I visited Postme.com.my, a new online shopping website owned by Pos Malaysia. Online business in Malaysia seem very attractive nowadays. Postme.com.my enter the market a few week before the Christmas, sure to cater the Christmas season.
Just a few question comes in my mind.
The delivery of the product will use Pos Laju. Means that they already make profit from the delivery. I don’t think by using Postme.com.my we will get some discount for delivery, because Pos Laju have its standard rate. If I am wrong, maybe you can correct me. So in conclusion, Pos Malaysia will earn from Pos Laju for delivery at Postme.com.my.
If I want to sell my product at Postme.com.my, I have to register myself as a merchant which will cost me RM60 per month, just for a 1GB storage. For a year, RM60 x 12 will be RM720. That is for the basic account, for others type of account you may see the table below:
Ok, RM720 for a year for basic account, and maximum RM500 per month or RM6000 per year. Do you think this is cheap? Postme.com.my is super fresh online store in Malaysia. Not a well established like ebay.com.my, Mudah.my and a lot more online store. Why should we pay for something that we can not prove it is reliable?
RM720 is actually a cost to hire someone to built our own online store, either using Oscommerce, or Zencart, or add a few hundreds then we can setup our own online store by Niagakit.
So, at Postme.com.my, Pos Malaysia can earn twice. Firstly, they earn from Pos Laju. Secondly, they earn from selling space. Double earning.
Mudah.my, ebay.com.my… both are free online marketplace. For startup, both of them are free. EBay will profit from PayPal, Mudah.my make profit from Adsense and other advertisement.. sellers still can list their product at free of charge, unless they want to upgrade for premium account. Whatever it is, ebay.com.my and Mudah.my are free for startup. My experience at Mudah.my, without any fees paid to Mudah.my, I already make more than RM1000 sales within this two month.
I don’t see Postme.com.my will be a success. We as a sellers, what we want is to reduce our cost then we can sell at lower price. Postme.com.my is only a site used by Pos Malaysia Berhad for profit maximization.
Sellers do have a lot more choices. I will prefer Mudah.my because at Mudah.my, you can make unlimited sales if you know the technique on how to make sales at Mudah.my, or at ebay.com.my and moreover, Niagakit is a great place for sellers to setup their own online store. Easy to use, and one off payment… no need to pay for monthly fees.
ps: This is only my humble opinion… I already 3 years in internet business, and as we know.. we can get so many free things on internet. Even free, we can make profit. Cost reduction is very important to me, then I can give better deal for my customers.
