KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 17: PAS’s Titiwangsa member of parliament Dr Lo’Lo Mohd Ghazali, has succumbed to cancer at 10.15 pm tonight at the Selayang hospital, according to a source from the Titiwangsa PAS division.
News of her death was also confirmed to Harakahdaily by PAS Muslimat chief and fellow parliamentarian Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof.
Dr Lo’Lo, 54, leaves behind husband Dr Aminuddin Abd Hamid Karim and four children Mawaddah, Muhd Fawwaz, Sakinah and Muhd Farhan. She had been fighting acute lung cancer, rendering her to the hospital bed before her situation worsened in the last few weeks. She had also been inactive on her Twitter account for the past two months.
The Kuala Kangsar-born medical doctor was also a member of the PAS central committee.
Earlier this morning, the family denied rumours sent over mobile messages and blogs claiming that she had died, and said she continued to receive treatment. The rumour prompted several messages of condolence Twitter from politicians.
Among Dr Lo’ Lo’s final initiatives as a member of parliament was to back opposition among Kampung Baru residents to the government’s redevelopment plan for the area without seeking their consent. The plan, under the Kampung Baru Development Corporation, would see construction of high rise buildings, but critics have said it would not only shortchange landowners there but also undermine the area’s unique Malay heritage.
