KUALA LUMPUR: Two businessmen and an individual are suing the Kelantan government and the Kota Baru Municipal Council over the ban on gambling in the state enforced in February.
Wong Meng Yit, 47, Lee Khim Haw alias Lee Khim Hwa, 58, and Gan Han Chuan, 44, filed the originating summons at the High Court here through Messrs Sheng Lee Law on June 6. The summons seeks to declare that under the Federal Constitution, the Kelantan government did not have the powers to prohibit, pass or amend laws related to lottery and gambling activities in the state.
It also stated that these matters were under the exclusive jurisdiction of Parliament. Lee Kien Han, counsel for the plaintiffs, told reporters case management was set for Aug 17. – Bernama
